  1. I remember sailing from Tampa to Panama City. A three day trip but only an hour or so of fishing. No freezer on board and not much room in the Ice Chest. We ate lot of fish but we also wasted too much. If the guy was like us and couldn't keep the meat from fresh then I'm ok with discarding the Dorado as he did.

  2. Can't believe you tossed all of that fish into the sea! There was still tons of meat to be had and at least a few days of soup to be gleaned from the head and bones….

  3. I fish off my small yacht on the east coast UK too but with worms at anchor as the water is too murky for lure fishing. I used to have fishing boats before buying a sailboat but wanted a cruising boat. Yachts make good fishing boats too as they are stable at anchor.

  4. Whats with the harsh comments!! Who cares if their was plenty of meat left, I suspect he had more than enough and the carcass will feed other sea creatures. The probably had a 5 course meal in the marina the next day.

  5. Dear Yachting World, this video is a real shame! It´s sad to see how little respect he shows for this amazing animal by wasting so much of it! And he should really learn how to choose the right knife for the job AND how to use it! This Video is wrong on so many levels, it´s disturbing.

  6. Don't care about comments for me you are ok
Belle brochette d'andouilles dans les commentaires.
En gros ce gars fait un bon job.
Merci au connards qui nous encouragent à partir seul.

  7. each to his own…i troll light color on sunny days, dark on dark days, throw 5/6 colored beads between the hook and head of lure, this sets the hook back in the skirt as this increases hook ups and with 10' 120lb test leader on a swivel, all lures pre tied..just me, stay cool

  8. It's always interesting to see how other people do things, even if you would do them differently. I'm sure Dan and the crew have such a plentiful supply of fish that they don't need to get every morsel of meat off, hence the wastage. The local sea creatures will feast on the leftovers and nothing will be wasted in the end…

On our boat we keep one of those plastic containers that lemon juice comes in. I have filled it with some very strong, cheap alcohol, and when I land a fish I squirt it into the gills and mouth. The jet of alcohol is very small and precise, so as well as killing the fish quickly and humanely, minimum alcohol is wasted. We all know alcohol spillage is a heinous crime…

We are novice sailors but share our 'sailing tips' as we go. If anyone is interested in seeing them check out our YouTube channel.

    Fair winds to all,

  9. By severing the spinal chord just behind the gills, you're only keeping it from flopping around, right? Wouldn't it still be alive while starting to bleed it? Wouldn't it be better (more humane) to kill it quick with a knife to the brain itself first? We do exactly that when spearing if we don't get a perfect kill. Serious question, not a criticism.

  10. get a chopper asian knife, cut that carcass,in a pot, oignons, garlic, lemon grass ,lime, chili peppers and cilantro, cook yourself the nicest fish broth…..add noodles and chunks of fish…yummy

  11. You did a few very smart things. First, by bleeding in the bucket, instead of overboard, you don't end up with a sea lion or shark taking it from you (happens all the time). Second, spiking the fish is smart and humane, I really liked that. The only thing I would suggest is that when you bring a fresh fish on deck, kick that reel into freespool.
